Prof. Jo Ritzen was recently made a Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of SS. Cyril and Methodius (UCM) in Trnava, Slovakia. The degree was conferred during an international conference entitled, ‘Marketing Identity – Explosion of Innovations’.
Jo Ritzen (Heerlen, 1945) is professorial fellow in the International Economics of Science, Technology and Higher Education at UNU-MERIT and the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance. He was previously Dutch Minister for Education and Science, then President of Maastricht University, and is now the driving force behind ‘Empower European Universities’ (EEU), an NGO which aims to ramp up innovation and internationalisation at universities and research institutes across Europe.
Dana Petranova, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Media Communication UCM in Trnava, said: “We met Professor Ritzen thanks to the cooperation in the international project on innovations in the educational system at universities. It is an honour for us that this well-known author and philosopher will be awarded the honorary degree by our university. He is a huge inspirer and motivator for us…”
