Arip is a Ph.D fellow at UNU-MERIT, Maastricht University. He has a Master Degree in Public Policy and Human Development at the same institute (specializing in Social Protection Financing and Design) and Master Degree in Economics from Toulouse School of Economics. Before coming to Maastricht he worked for the Government of Indonesia, private sector, and NGOs in Indonesia. He is currently working on comparative studies to assess income/expenditure distribution inequality and polarization between China, India and Indonesia using advanced econometrics and microsimulation models. His study is funded by Indonesian Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP).
