Design and Evaluation of Innovation Policy in an Emerging Economy Context (DEIP)

In the last two decades Turkey has witnessed rapid economic growth. The liberalization of trade and capital markets, the customs union with the EU, the privatisation of publicly owned industries, increased foreign direct investment, recent goverment policies and the EU bid have played an important role in this growth process. Turkey is currently ranked as the 17th largest economy in the world. Despite this dynamic growth experience, the economic crisis of 2001 and the recent global financial crisis have shown that the economy is vulnerable to external shocks. This course will specifically focus on the role of science and technology policies in economic development and analyse their potential contributions to sustainable economic development in Turkey.
