Global Value Chains, Latecomer Development and the Green Transformation

The CatChain is an EU-funded network of innovation economists focusing on catching up along global value chains. The project will hold its Second Conference on 29 June 2023 at United Nations University – MERIT, focusing on the opportunities and consequences related to the green transition.
The event will be comprised of five sessions. Each session will have the presentation of three or four papers by academics and international organization officers, followed by a chair discussion with the authors and questions and comments from the audience.
Description:
The world is going through the transition to a new techno-economic paradigm based on green and digital technologies. This shift disrupts industries and creates opportunities for developing countries that can explore these emerging sectors to upgrade their production and catch up.
However, this endeavour is challenging. The opportunities for economic gains vary according to the technology in question. Generating economic gains requires a process of building the necessary capabilities and surpassing market barriers to enter, develop and upgrade technologies in global value chains.
The objective of this conference is to bring together CatChain researchers and external participants to discuss research related to these topics: global value chains, latecomer development and the green transformation.
