Orange the world: workshop on violence against women

On the 25th of November, UNU-MERIT will be hosting an event in collaboration with DEMOS and UNSA Development Committee to address the importance of elimination of violence against women. This activity is framed in United Nation's Orange the World Campaign to increase awareness against gender-based violence.
The event will explore the prevalence of violence against women, introduce the concept of shadow pandemic, recognise different types of violence that exists and focus on sexual harassment prevention and erradication.
The aim of the event is to raise awareness about this issue, facilitate constructive discussions with various stakeholders, and outline action plans for a safer and more inclusive environment in universities.
Topics and agenda
The event will start with a series of short presentations to provide participants with a common-basis of knowledge. It will then continue with 4 simultaneously-run policy workshops where the participants will be given the opportunity to turn their knowledge and experience into concrete action plans.
The topics of the workshops are as follows*:
- How can we create a safe environment online for women and stop digital violence?
- How can we create a safe space in teaching settings at the university?
- How can we improve the complaint procedure of harassment cases in universities?
- How can we raise awareness about gender violence in Maastricht?
Violence against women is an issue that concerns everyone and all of us can do better. Hence, we invite all students and staff members to join us on the 25th of November.
