On Tuesday 29 September 2020, the Act for Global Goals Days 2020 Maastricht will focus on Sustainable Development Goal 17, ‘Partnerships for the Goals’.
A panel of speakers will discuss how to develop partnerships to support sustainable development knowledge institutions, such as universities, research institutions and knowledge-intensive enterprises to work together across continents.

About the speaker
Mr Han Aarts, director of Mundo, the Maastricht University centre for international cooperation in academic development, will start with a brief introduction on international knowledge cooperation by Maastricht University with partners in the Global South, with the aim to contribute to sustainable development.
Dr Kwaku Oduro-Appiah, from the University of Cape Coast in Ghana, then will present his research on urban waste collection in Ghana’s capital city Accra, and specifically on the application of some of his research results in practice and the amazing results of that. Dr Oduro recently defended successfully his PhD thesis at Maastricht University as part of a Mundo project.
Ms Maria Tomai, PhD fellow at UNU-MERIT and member of SITE4Society, will then present their collaborative research actions and outreach events with various partner universities in Africa and Europe, that fostered an action-research approach towards circular economy transitions in cities.
Finally, Mr Anurag Kanaujia, research and internship coordinator at Friend in Need (India) will share his insights on the worldwide mobilisation of citizens, activists, universities and researchers the NGO Friend in Need achieved with just a quiz, aiming to sensitize people about the sanitation challenges in the world.
