PISA as a measure and stimulus for system-level education reform

Prof. Louis Volante, UNU-MERIT & Brock University

This seminar discusses key findings from a recent edited volume "The PISA Effect on Global Educational Governance" (Routledge, 2018). Recent system-level changes that have been precipitated by the expanding role of the Programme in International Student Assessment (PISA) are examined across a range of national contexts such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Australia, New Zealand, Shanghai-China, among others. The seminar also discusses PISA performance across the European Union in relation to regional and school ethnic diversity. The overall objective is for participants to understand the degree to which PISA-focused research is linked to national educational policy discourses and international education agendas.
