Design and Evaluation of Innovation Policies (DEIP)

A workshop on the “Design and Evaluation of Innovation Policies in African Countries” will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, from 6-10 October 2014. It is organised by UNU-MERIT in partnership with the African Observatory of Science, Technology and Innovation (AOSTI) and the Pan African University - Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation (PAU-ISTI), under the auspices of the African Union Commission (AUC).

This is the first intensive one-week programme in a series of workshops organised jointly by the institutes. This workshop targets policymakers in science, technology and innovation from three Regional Economic Communities: the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the Common Market for Southern and Eastern Africa (COMESA) and the East African Community (EAC).

The programme focuses on the theory and practice of innovation policy, on policy design, policy implementation, on the measurement and monitoring of innovative performance, and takes the form of lectures by local and international experts, as well as group work by participants. The workshop aims to support AUC member countries to develop relevant policies based on the Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy for Africa -2024 (STISA-2024).
