Gulzhan Asylbek kyzy is a PhD fellow at UNU-MERIT. She has a background in peace and development research with a primary interest in development economics. Formerly, she worked at Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) in Sweden, where she focused on exploring the relationship between security and socio-economic development using available data in low- and middle-income countries. She has contributed to the studies related to social cohesion, impact evaluation of a peacebuilding programme, development impacts in fragile and conflict-affected environments and the measurement of violence.
