In his role as policy advisor, Thomas supports the director and management team of UNU-MERIT in developing and executing its strategy.
Thomas his personal research interest relate to the role of innovation and digital technology to drive sustainable development and humanitarian action. He has conducted various projects supporting development and humanitarian organisations to develop and adopt digital innovations to increase their impact on society.
His work focuses, in particular, on the use of data and new technologies to increase access to affected communities and to support decision-making processes. Thereby, it reflects on the risks associated with these new opportunities and applications in order to inform the design of responsible innovation.
Thomas works at the intersection between academia and practice. Through concrete projects, Thomas translates knowledge on how to best innovate in development or humanitarian contexts into action.
