Alejandro Alvarez-Vanegas MSc.


PhD fellow

Alejandro Álvarez-Vanegas is a PhD fellow in the Governance and Policy Analysis Programme (GPAC2) at UNU-MERIT / Maastricht University. He holds a BSc in Process Engineering from Universidad EAFIT (Colombia) and a MSc in Sustainability Sciences from the Leuphana University of Lüneburg (Germany). 

He is currently working as Assistant Professor at Universidad EAFIT and for six years he coordinated the area of Environmental Culture in this institution. His main activities include teaching (Sustainable Development) and the organisation of events, workshops and projects to raise awareness and advocate for Sustainable Development. Alejandro is also an active citizen and a member of the board of directors in the Low Carbon City Foundation. 

His research work focuses on the processes of transformation of universities to contibute to a Social-Ecological Transformation and thus become truly promoters of Sustainable Development at local and global level. Some key areas of his interest are: Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), Urban Sustainability, Service-Learning, and Transdisciplinarity.
