Alejandro Alvarez-Vanegas MSc.
Alejandro Álvarez-Vanegas is a PhD fellow in the Governance and Policy Analysis Programme (GPAC2) at UNU-MERIT / Maastricht University. He holds a BSc in Process Engineering from Universidad EAFIT and a MSc in Sustainability Sciences from the Leuphana University of Lüneburg.
He is currently working as full-time lecturer in the Process Engineering Department at Universidad EAFIT and coordinates the area of Environmental Culture in this institution. His main activities include teaching (Sustainable Development and Industrial Ecology); the organisation of events, workshops and projects to raise awareness and advocating for Sustainable Development and the achievement of the SDGs; and advising in the Sustainability and Environmental Committees of EAFIT. Alejandro is a member of the board of directors in the Low Carbon City Foundation and participates in the urban sustainability think-tank “La Ciudad Verde”, as well as in the Circular Economy Platform of the Americas.
His research work focuses on the processes of transformation of universities to become truly promoters of sustainable development. Some key areas of his interest are: Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), Action-Research and Service-Learning, transdisciplinarity and circular economy.
