Vasil Gubadze is a PhD fellow at UNU-MERIT since September 2016. He has a Bachelor's degree in Physics from Tbilisi State University (Georgia) and M.Sc. in Economics from Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena (Germany). He has also studied as an exchange student at the University of Bremen, and was a beneficiary of Erasmus Mundus Ianus II program from 2013 to 2015, receiving a full-degree scholarship.

At UNU-MERIT, besides tutoring MPP courses and organizing the weekly research seminars within the institute, he is working on his PhD thesis which aims to improve the understanding of the most challenging and unexplained empirical regularities in social science, such as – Zipf’s law, rank-size distribution of cities and Pareto distribution of wealth. His supervisors are Prof. Dr. Bart Verspagen (Director of UNU-MERIT) and Dr. Neil Foster-McGregor (Deputy Director of UNU-MERIT).
Vasil's research interests in Economics include but are not limited to Urban Economics, Innovation Economics and New Institutional Economics.
