Wondimagegn has been a visiting fellow at Cornell University under the Structural Transformation of African Agriculture and Rural Spaces (STAARS) fellowship with financial support provided through the CGIAR Research Program on Policies, Institutions, and Markets (PIM). His STAARS research project focuses on analyzing the link between conservation agriculture and rural poverty in Ethiopia using the World Bank LSMS-ISA panel data.

Wondimagegn has a strong interest in applied econometrics (cross-sectional and panel data), impact evaluation and mathematical programming techniques and their applications in a wider range of economic and development problems. Wondimagegn’s research interest revolves development and agricultural economics with a particular focus on areas including climate change adaptation and mitigation, sustainable agriculture and structural transformation, welfare analysis, agricultural innovations and social networks, households' decision-making behavior, and risk management.
