Dr. Brenda Yamba

Dr. Brenda Yamba is the Senior Regional Orphans and Vulnerable Children Advisor in the USAID Regional HIV/AIDS Program office. Her role entails providing technical support leadership and strategic direction on program design, implementation and monitoring of USAID programs in Southern Africa. She joined USAID in 2010 as a Program Specialist in Lesotho. Prior to that Brenda worked for Save the Children in various capacities in Ethiopia, Malawi and Mozambique. Her career in development started in Zambia working for Project Concern International, VSO and Care Zambia. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from the University of Zambia, a Master’s Degree in International and Community Development from Deakin University, Australia. Her PhD dissertation at UNU-MERIT, Maastricht, aimed to understand why and how female child carers in Lesotho continued to attend secondary school despite facing adversities.
