Dr. Sonila Tomini works as an Assistant Professor at UNU-MERIT and its School of Governance. She holds a PhD in Health Economics and Public Policy Analysis (Maastricht University, 2011).

Sonila’s principal research areas of expertise relate to health and social protection financing mechanisms, techniques in policy evaluation, as well as assessment and indicators of poverty and vulnerability. She has published a number of articles in health care and long-term care in Europe in international peer reviewed journals. In addition, Sonila has provided continuous advice to international organizations like the World Bank (on public health care financing) and UNICEF (on children disabilities and inclusion).

She is a visiting researcher at the Department of Economics of the University of Liège (Belgium) and has previously worked for the Department for Health Services Research (Maastricht University). Sonila has also acted as a dissertation advisor for Laureate Online Education and the University of Liverpool.
