Prof. César A. Hidalgo, head of the Macro Connections group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, spoke about “The Dynamics of Economic and Cultural Development” at a seminar on Monday 31 March 2014.
He described economic development as the process through which society accumulates knowledge and information, while struggling to embody the latter.
In terms of cultural production, Hidalgo demonstrated a strong link between the development of cultural domains and the emergence of different communication technologies.
In conclusion he presented three large data visualisations on industrial and cultural production: atlas.media.mit.edu, dataviva.info and pantheon.media.mit.edu.” See the lecture video and links for more details.
