More about UNU-MERIT’s Research Seminars
Leopoldo: Hello, everybody. My name is Leopoldo Pérez Obregón, Digital Communications Officer of UNU-MERIT and I’m here with Assistant Professor Fabiana Visentin to talk about this year’s edition of our Institute’s research seminars. Fabiana, if you don’t mind, let’s jump directly right into the questions. What can we expect of this new edition of UNU-MERIT seminars?
Fabiana: This year, after two years of Zoom meetings, we are finally back in person. And we are going to start a new edition of our seminar series where our guests will join us here in person. The idea is to have an occasion to have all of our community back again. To have an occasion to interact, to learn about each other and to talk about research.
Leopoldo: And what are the main topics that are going to be covered or discussed in the seminar?
Fabiana: We will cover a broad range of topics and the idea is to have input from colleagues. The approach will be bottom up. Colleagues will suggest the potential speakers and we will invite them with the idea to merge the two communities: the innovation community and the governance community.
Leopoldo: And why do you think it is important for our academic community to participate in this activity?
Fabiana: It is important because we will have the opportunity to get in touch with frontier research, to learn about what our colleagues outside UNU-MERIT are doing. But it would also be an opportunity to create contacts. In fact, the idea is to have the speaker here for the talk and then the speaker will stay with us for a full day. We will also have the opportunity for in-person contact. We will have the opportunity to introduce ourselves to the speaker and to get linkage and, why not, collaborations.
Leopoldo: And who can participate in the seminars and how will they be conducted? In person, hybrid?
Fabiana: The idea is to push our community to come here in person. But of course, we want to keep the lesson that we learned during the two year of the pandemic. All our seminars will be maintained in the hybrid format. In this way we can have a broad audience and we might also have some speakers from far away. For example, some speakers from the United States could be virtually with us.
Leopoldo: Is it open for the external community to join us?
Fabiana: Yes.
Leopoldo: Okay. Perfect. And where can people know more about these seminars, the scheduling, the dates?
Fabiana: Internally we will circulate emails. Today, soon, you will receive an email about the opening seminar. That will be next week, the 20th, and we will also circulate the agenda for the fall semester. Colleagues and also others can mark in advance their agenda. And I count on you to promote on our website.
Leopoldo: Of course, we will leave the relevant links for everybody that is listening to visit our website and interact with the links for registering.
Fabiana: Thank you so much Leopoldo
