Dr. Khalid Koser was appointed Extraordinary Professor in Conflict, Peace and Security at the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences of Maastricht University on 18 September 2014. “When is Migration a Security Issue?” was the title of his inaugural lecture.
About the speaker
Beside his position at Maastricht University, Khalid Koser is the Deputy Director and Academic Dean at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy. He is also a non-resident Senior Fellow in Foreign Policy Studies at the Brookings Institution, Associate Fellow at Chatham House, Research Associate at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, and non-resident Fellow at the Lowy Institute in Sydney. Koser is chair of the UK’s Independent Advisory Group on Country Information and vice-chair of the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on Migration. He holds a PhD from University College in Londen (1993) and a BA from the University of Cambridge (1990). Dr Koser has published widely on asylum, refugees, internal displacement and international migration. He is also co-editor of the Journal of Refugee Studies and on the editorial board for Global Governance; Population, Space, and Place; Ethnic and Racial Studies; Forced Migration Review and the Journal of Conflict Transformation and Security.
