Gabriela Dutrénit, Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Xochimilco

The UNU-MERIT's UNESCO Chair is glad to announce the first edition of its webinar series on ''Science, Technology and Innovation Policies for Sustainable Development in Latin America'' (STI-LAC Webinars).

During the first session, we will be joined by Gabriela Dutrénit, PhD in Science and Technology Research Studies (SPRU) at Sussex University. Also, a Professor at Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Xochimilco.

Title of the presentation: ''Science Technology & Innovation policy, development strategy and social inclusion: The challenges to design the policy mix''.

This seminar will focus on the structural heterogeneity (productive, social, environmental) of the countries from Latin America and the Caribbean. It will explore the type of existing structures and the STI policies prevailing in the region, in light of the three existing analytical frameworks.

During the presentation, it will be questioned how much we should focus on the discussion of which STI policy analytical framework is the most appropriate. Also, how the characteristics of a triple/quadruple STI policy shoud look like. Ultimately, the objective is to think through a policy mix that integrates instruments that foster innovation in the different existing structures, with a perspective of inclusion and sustainability.

Discussant: Gonzalo Rivas, Chief of the Competitiveness, Technology and Innovation Division of the Interamerican Development Bank.
