Forbes Davidson and Paul Rabé will explore the issues involved in the relationship between practitioners carrying out research and research focussed on practice. The session will be introduced and illustrated from cases. Themes relevant for the participants will be selected and discussed.
About the speaker
Forbes Davidson is a Senior Expert, Urban Policy & Planning at the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies in Rotterdam. He has more than 30 years of experience in urban and regional planning, urban management, land management, institution building, institutional assessment, low income housing, capacity building, training, project review and evaluation and project management. His field of interest includes strategic and participative planning, the issue of resettlement and the role of ICT in planning and management particularly in developing and transition countries. Mr. Davidson was in charge of programmes on policy and planning at IHS and led a support programme to Kosovo helping to develop a new system of planning and a new planning institute. He has worked in planning teams in local government and New Town Development agencies in the UK. Mr. Davidson has spent more than twelve years in developing countries, including a long-term involvement in Ismailia, Egypt. He has worked on a wide range of urban development projects, from preparation of city development plans through project implementation to development of new urban management and land development institutions. These projects involved close working between local government, communities and the private sector.
