Salpy Ohanis joined UNU-MERIT in February 2021 as a Programme Assistant for the Migration and Development Research Group. Prior to this she worked at NTR- the Dutch public service broadcaster as editor for a platform intendent for the refugees in The Netherlands. Salpy volunteered as an Interpreter with the Vluchteling Werk Nederland (VWN) in Heerlen area, which is an NGO that acts in defense of in the best interests of refugees and asylum seekers in the Netherlands.

In 2014, Salpy settled down in the Netherlands coming from Syria, where she was working at the Syrian European Business Center (SEBC) as Skills Programme Project Assistant, an initiative launched by the European Training Foundation (ETF) to qualify and train young people. Besides that, she worked as Training Coordinator at SEBC's Management Training Center (MTC).

Salpy Holds a BA in English Language and Literature from Aleppo University in Syria.
