6. Migration and Development

Sarah Roeder is a researcher at UNU-MERIT/MGSoG. She joined the Migration Research Group in October 2018, where she has since been involved in commissioned projects for country governments and international organizations (IOM, WHO, GIZ, European Commission, ICMPD), participates in capacity building activities and presents research findings to practitioners, policy makers and academics. She also acts as academic tutor and thesis supervisor on both Bachelor and Master level in the area of development and migration studies. Her main areas of interest are migration decision-making, gendered migration, return, and refugee (mental) health.

Sarah holds an MSc in Public Policy and Human Development from Maastricht University/UNU-MERIT, with a specialisation in Migration and Innovation Studies. Her thesis focused on mental health care access for Syrian refugee women in Germany. Prior to that, she obtained a BSc (Hons) in Counselling & Psychotherapy from Middlesex University in London (2013) and worked in research/clinical administration in the Research Psychiatry Department at Trinity College Dublin and as a Counsellor in various non-for-profit organisations in the Greater Dublin Area. She speaks fluent Spanish, German and English, and has working knowledge of French and Portuguese.
