Dr. Emanuela Sirtori

Emanuela Sirtori is partner and senior researcher at CSIL (Milan, Italy). She is an expert in the field of regional development, research & development, innovation and industrial policy. Over the years, Emanuela has been involved in different research and evaluation studies on behalf of the European Parliament, the European Commission and other national and international organisations. She has accumulated experience in the development and application of both quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection and analysis, as well as in the coordination of complex assignments and large teams of experts. For instance, she has contributed to analysing the prioritisation approaches of Smart Specialisation Strategies adopted in the 2014-2020 period by EU regions, and investigating the correspondence between the selected priorities and the actual technological, economic and scientific profiles and strengths of the regions.

Emanuela is the author of scientific papers, technical reports and book chapters in her fields of research, including articles published in peer-reviewed journals (Research Policy, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Industrial and Corporate Change, International Journal of Technological Learning, Innovation and Development, Evaluation).

Emanuela holds a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Milan and a PhD from UNU-MERIT and Maastricht University (School of Business and Economics) in the area of Economics of Technology, Innovation and Development. Her thesis studied the relationship between evolving technologies and market dynamics by studying the behaviour of firms in the technological transition process. Her empirical research has specifically analysed the case of light-emitting diode (LED) technologies adopted in the lighting industry.
