Tatenda is a researcher at UNU-MERIT and her research focuses on inequalities in health, education, and gender. Her Ph.D. dissertation analyzed the effects of HIV on gender gaps in educational attainment in sub-Saharan Africa using quantitative and qualitative methods. This research is in line with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which seeks to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. Ongoing and developing research projects include examining the intergenerational transmission of education; analysis of health care systems and policies; contraceptive use, Intimate partner physical violence; and effects of gender inequality on economic development in sub-Saharan Africa. These topics are in line with SDG 5 which targets to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. She has worked on evaluation projects that examined the effects of (school) feeding programs on schooling and health outcomes with the World Food Program in Madagascar and Gambia. Tatenda has a Master's in Public Affairs with an emphasis in Health Policy from Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs, a Master's in Economics from the University of Kansas, and a Bachelors in Mathematics from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
