Louis Volante (PhD) is a Professor of Education at Brock University, Professorial Fellow at UNU-MERIT, and President of the Canadian Educational Researchers’ Association (CERA). He has held Visiting Professor appointments in England (UCL IOE), the Netherlands (UNU-MERIT), and Canada (University of Toronto). Dr. Volante received his PhD from the University of Toronto with a focus on education policy studies.

Professor Volante’s current research is focused on comparative policy analysis; politics of education reform; international large-scale assessments and transnational governance; and cross-national differences in educational achievement and inequality. His research has been supported by various international and Canadian research agencies such as the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). His current SSHRC funded five-year project examines the relationship between migrant integration policies and student outcomes using a mixed-methods research design.

Professor Volante is a frequent invited speaker around the world and has worked as an advisor and evaluator for various Canadian, American, British, and European government departments on issues related to large-scale reform. With over 130 publications that examine diverse cultural contexts, Professor Volante is an internationally recognized scholar whose works are widely cited in academic and policy communities. He has also been featured as an educational change expert by scholarly associations such as the American Educational Research Association (AERA).

At UNU-MERIT/MGSoG, Professor Volante supervises graduate students in the Master of Science Programme in Public Policy and Human Development (MPP) and the PhD Programme in Governance and Policy Analysis (GPAC²). He also teaches doctoral courses in Policy Evaluation as well as the Global Governance of Education.
