Dr. Halefom Nigus

Halefom holds a PhD in Economics from Maastricht University and MSc & BA in Economics both from Mekelle University. He is currently working as a consultant at the World Bank Group. Prior to joining the World Bank, he worked as a consultant in the Refugee Economies Programme, University of Oxford, and as a research associate in the Ethiopian Policy Studies Institute (former EDRI). Halefom has taught economics courses at Dilla, Mekelle, and Maastricht Universities and co-supervised master’s thesis at UNU-MERIT/Maastricht University.

Halefom’s research interest lies in the fields of Development, Labor, and Behavioral Economics. His specific research interest and expertise encompass impact evaluations, markets and human behavior, social capital, youth unemployment, job searching, and the gender gap in employment. Halefom utilizes lab-in-the-field experiments, self-reported surveys, and microeconometrics.
