Master of Arts, Magazine Journalism, Syracuse University – New York
Bachelor of Arts, International Religious Studies, University of California Santa Barbara – California
In my first career, as a journalist, I worked for a variety of publications in the United States and Africa. Human interest stories, travel, and politics in the Horn of Africa were areas covered. My work as a journalist in Somalia led to my second career in international development. For the past dozen years I’ve worked as a democracy and governance specialist with the United States Agency for International Development. Areas of expertise include women’s rights, civil society, rule of law, elections, and governance. Geographically I’ve worked across the globe, with postings in Latin America, Asia, and Africa.
Gender and political science. I’m especially interested in women’s leadership in developing countries.
