Jo Ritzen is professorial fellow in the International Economics of Science, Technology and Higher Education at UNU-MERIT and the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance.

He was previously Dutch Minister for Education and Science, then Vice President of the World Bank for Research and for Human Development, subsequently President of Maastricht University; edited a "Second Change for Europe" (English, German, Spanish) with analysis and policy proposals for a European future with more sustainability and less inequality; while presently engaged in analysis aimed at policy to address at the European level the discontents of globalisation.
