Richard Bluhm is an Assistant Professor of Macroeconomics at Leibniz University Hannover and currently a Humboldt Lynen research fellow at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). He's an Affiliated Researcher at UNU-MERIT, a member of the AidData Research Consortium and an affilate of Monash University's SoDa Labs. From 2010 to 2014, he was a member of a joint research project on "Institutions and Growth" initiated by the Agence Française de Developpement (AFD) and the Maastricht Graduate School of Governance.

Richard's research is broadly situated in development economics, macroeconomics, political economy and applied econometrics. Within those broad fields he's particularly interested in the spatial distribution of economic activity and the political economy of ethnicity. His work has been published in leading general interest and field journals, such as the Journal of Development Economics, the Journal of Applied Econometrics or the European Economic Review.
