Researchers from China and Europe met in Maastricht on 24 April 2017 to discuss research related to the SINCERE project, or ‘Sino-European Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency’. The workshop was hosted by UNU-MERIT researchers Prof. René Kemp and Dr. Serdar Türkeli and participants included Yong Geng from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China; Beijia Huang from the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, China; Raimund Bleischwitz from University College London, UK; and Paul Welfens from Bergische Universität Wuppertal, Germany.
The participants discussed a range of issues including eco-cement, a survey analysis of the mobile phone repair industry, and scenarios for the circular economy. Dr. Serdar Türkeli presented the results of a bibliometric analysis on the circular economy and Prof. René Kemp fielded questions on the survey analysis. Ex-MPP student Joke Dufourmont from Circle Economy presented a circular economy dashboard, and MPP student Manfei Yang shared her research approach on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) in China. SINCERE is funded by several European scientific councils and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
