Enhancing Agricultural Innovation: Tools and Options for Strengthening Agricultural Innovation System Capacity

theme Theme 3: Knowledge and industrial dynamics
client World Bank and DFID (UK)
time frame 2004-2005
researcher(s) Andy Hall
description The project explores the types of interventions that will strengthen the capacity of agricultural innovation systems that international financial organizations and national governments can invest in. The case studies will also contribute empirical material to UNU-INTECH’s on-going comparative analysis of country experiences in building agricultural innovation capacity to compete in domestic and international markets and to cope with world trade rules and quality standards such as sanitary and phytosanaitary conditions.

Case studies were undertaken in Colombia, Ghana, India and Bangladesh relating to two themes – (i) export horticulture and (ii) industrialization of the food chain.
