description The objective of the ict@innovation programme is to foster small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the field of ICT in Southern and Eastern Africa capable of providing adapted applications and services to the public and private sector. The focus is on FLOSS as a key technology to drive innovation, add local value and foster development-oriented and affordable ICT applications. The improvement of regional networking and strengthening of consulting capacities of ICT associations and training institutions as well as of other relevant change agents will be key vehicle of the programme.

ict@innovation is a joint programme of FOSSFA - The Free Sofware and Open Source Foundation for Africa [www.fossfa.net] and InWEnt - Capacity Buildiing International, Germany [www.inwent.org] and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) [www.bmz.de].

Together with its partner, the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (AITI-KACE) [www.aiti-kace.com.gh] in Accra, Ghana, UNU-MERIT is designing a train-the-trainer programme for people wanting to start or improve FLOSS-based small and medium enterprises in Eastern and Southern Africa.

This involves the organisation of an open, collaborative process for the design of training materials, the execution of train-the-trainer sessions in Southern and Eastern Africa, and support for trainers in carrying out trainings in their regions.
