This project is aimed at assessing the impact of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), which is one of the flexibility instruments of Kyoto Protocol. The key issues addressed within the framework of the project are participation of business companies in CDM projects, and implication for developing countries in terms of their technological development.
Main research question of this study is 'What is the role of business companies in technological capability building in developing countries under CDM projects?’
Analytical framework of the research combines networking, technological capabilities and spillovers approaches with application for CDM projects. Methodological framework includes both qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis. Data is planned to be gathered through survey of investor-companies and CDM project implementers. Deep qualitative study is intended to be covered in 6-8 case studies of CDM projects, which will include project site visits and in-depth interviews with project stakeholders.
This research intends to contribute to development of favorable policies aimed at attracting private investors in CDM projects and effective technology, knowledge, skills development under CDM projects in developing countries
