Asel Doranova, a second year PhD researcher at UNU-MERIT, started her internship with the Capacity Building Team at the UN Framework Convention of Climate Change (UNFCCC) office in Bonn in February 2007. Her tasks include assisting in the design of a database to support regular monitoring of capacity-building and designing a survey to be used to gather information for assessing capacities in developing countries for implementation of the Kyoto protocol and related Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects. Results of the survey will be used to design capacity building activities targeting a wide group of local actors, such as local government, private entities, research and educational institutions and NGOs. In addition the survey structure aims to provide guidance to capture information on national capacities in the reports prepared by country parties.
“I am keen to make my own contribution to projects and activities implemented at the UNFCCC office. My ‘baggage’ of knowledge, experience, and academic perspectives is proving to be interesting for my new colleagues. Besides, this internship gives me a unique opportunity to establish a personal network with experts, resource people and students that would also be important in proceeding in my PhD research as well as in my future research work.”
