UNU-MERIT researchers ranked among top international economists
Posted: 0000-00-00
UNU-MERIT director, Luc Soete and three professorial fellows - John Hagedoorn, Enrico Perotti and Robin Cowan - are ranked among the top Dutch-based international economists in an annual ranking published by Economisch Statistische Berichten (ESB), a Dutch economic journal. Professors Soete and Hagedoorn are ranked 11th and 12th respectively in international citations for the period 1999-2003. Professors Perotti (3rd) and Cowan (6th) are among the top performers in a separate "citatie-tipparade" category, which lists the best newcomers based on citations in the final year of the measurement period (2003-only). The 2005 rankings were published in the 7 April 2006 edition of the journal

In our continuing series focusing on research and policy analysis at UNU-MERIT, Anthony Arundel, programme leader Knowledge and Industrial Dynamics analyses some conceptual challenges that underlie the measurement of knowledge flows and innovation in a changing global context, and discusses how the Institute's research programme is breaking new ground in dealing with these problems.

Tim Hubbard, Head of Human Genome Analysis at The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, UK , was one of the speakers at the UNU-MERIT research symposium on "Open Source" and "Open Medicine" at UN Headquarters, New York , on 13 April 2006 . He talks to Philipp Schmidt about a bold new proposal being discussed at the World Health Organization to promote research into neglected diseases and enhance access to medicines for the world's poorest populations.
