Technological change (innovation, in particular) is one of the important factors of economic growth. The positive role of technical change in industrial development and economic performance of the developed world is established unequivocally, but it does not have adequate acceptance in the developing world. Abdul Waheed's current research focuses on the fact why innovation culture is not effectively thrived in developing countries, for knowledge accumulation and economic growth. In particular, he endeavors to figure out which kind of industrial environment generally induces innovations in these countries' enterprises, and how much these innovation determinants are different from the developed world. Which are the forces that hinder their technological progress? And how can these obstacles be removed in order to carry out successful innovations in these countries and to exploit these innovations optimally for economic growth?

Abdul Waheed's work primarily is empirical in nature, and he intensively uses applied econometrics and statistics in order to perform analyses.
