Walter Jansen (1982) is a Dutch national and started working as an assistant to the Director for UNU-MERIT in October 2008.
In 2003 Walter obtained a Bachelor degree in Communication Management at the Utrecht School for Higher and Professional Education (Hogeschool van Utrecht). After one year of traveling and working he decided to start the European Studies Bachelor program at Maastricht University. During the Bachelor and within the framework of the EU Exchange Program, Walter studied six months in Vienna and followed courses ranging from Egyptology to war and military history. In 2007 he obtained a Bachelor degree in European Studies and continued at the same faculty with the European Studies – External Relations Master. He graduated from this Master program in August 2008.
During the last two years of his study Walter developed a special interest in the politics of former republics of the Soviet Union (the Commonwealth of Independent States), international relations/diplomacy and international cooperation.
