Stephan Dietrich is assistant professor at UNU-MERIT. In his research he uses data to measure and model the welfare effects of climatic changes and other types of economic shocks. He is particularly interested in the mitigating role of public policies in the fields of social protection, insurance markets, and taxation. His goal is to develop data driven insurance mechanisms that are effective, inclusive, and transparent. His research often uses multiple data sources such as survey data and remotely sensed imagery to provide new insights on the workings of public policies using impact evaluation, machine learning, or structural causal modeling techniques.
